How to use STRAT1

Everything from first setup to building a race strategy and running lap challenges in your league.

1. Before you start

You'll need:

There's nothing to switch on in GT7 and no extra hardware. STRAT1 asks the PS5 for its telemetry and GT7 sends it.

2. First-time setup

Find your PS5's address

  1. On the PS5, open Settings → Network → Connection Status → View Connection Status.
  2. Note the IPv4 address, which looks like 192.168.1.23.

Set up STRAT1

  1. Open STRAT1 and enter your PS5's address.
  2. Add your driver name in Settings. It's used on lap challenge cards and standings.
  3. When you first start coaching, Android may ask to allow Nearby devices. Allow it, because that's how the app reaches your PS5.

Tip: if your PS5's address keeps changing, give it a fixed address in your router's settings, often called a "DHCP reservation", so you don't have to re-enter it.

3. Settings explained

Driver name
Shown on your lap challenge cards and in standings.
Tyre limits
The temperature at which tyres turn red on the dashboard and you get a warning. Set front and rear separately.
Units
mph or km/h for speeds in calls, the dashboard and reports.
Coaching detail
How much the coach talks, from the essentials to every detail.
Pit calls
Spoken, on screen only, or off.

4. Start coaching

  1. Go to the Coach screen.
  2. Track: leave it on automatic and STRAT1 recognises the circuit and layout from the line you drive, usually within the first lap. Or pick it from the official track list.
  3. Tyres: choose the compound you're starting on.
  4. Race length: for timed races, enter the minutes so fuel and pit calls can count down properly. Lap races send their length automatically.
  5. Tap Start coaching and head out on track.

Tip: turn on Record raw telemetry before driving if you want to share the session with a friend, or send it in when something doesn't look right. It records everything GT7 sends, so the session can be replayed exactly.

5. The live dashboard

Live delta
Your gap to your session best, updated all the way round the lap. Green means you're up, amber means you're down. At the line it holds the final gap for 5 seconds. Tap it to make it double size.
Turn chips
Time gained or lost at each corner as you clear it, plus the next turn coming up.
Tyre temps
Each tyre's temperature in numbers and colour. Blue is cold, green is optimal, amber is near your limit, red is at or over it.
Fuel
Fuel left and how many laps it covers. Tap it to switch to minutes for timed races. The bar pulses amber at 5 laps left and red at 2.
Last and best
Your last full lap and your session best.
Working on
The corners where you're losing the most time.

The dashboard works in portrait and landscape, and adjusts its layout on tablets.

6. Voice coaching

After each lap, STRAT1 tells you how you compare with your best and where the biggest difference was, with the reason. For example:

“0.1 up on Your PB. Turn 5, lost 0.2. Braked 8 metres later.”

Before a corner you keep losing time at, it gives you a heads-up, like “Turn 5 next. Brake earlier, carry speed.” In between you'll hear fuel updates and tyre warnings such as “Front left tyre hot, 99.” Turn the detail up or down in Settings.

7. Session reports

Stop the coach and your report is ready straight away. Find every past session under Sessions. Each report includes:

8. Race strategy

Collect your data in practice

  1. Join a practice lobby with the same car, track and settings as the race.
  2. Run a stint on each compound you might use. The longer the stint, the better the tyre-wear data.
  3. Do at least one proper pit stop with fuel. STRAT1 measures the time lost in the pit lane and how fast fuel goes in.

Build the plan

  1. Open the Strategy screen.
  2. Enter the race length in laps and your starting fuel %. It fills in from your last practice where it can.
  3. Say whether two compounds are required.
  4. You get the 5 fastest strategies, each with which laps to stop on, how much fuel to add and which tyres to fit.

Tyre crossover in the race

While you race, STRAT1 compares your current pace with what fresh tyres would give you, using your practice stints. When stopping becomes the faster option, you get a warning 3 laps ahead, then a spoken and on-screen “Box, box” with the compound to fit.

Delete old stints from the Strategy screen if you change car, track or settings, so they don't skew the next plan.

9. Compare and chase

Compare with a friend

  1. Your friend turns on Record raw telemetry before driving, then shares the recording from Sessions.
  2. In STRAT1, tap Import a session or lap challenge and pick their file. You can also just open it from Discord or your files.
  3. Compare it with your own session at the same track to see where they're quicker, lap by lap, corner by corner and across the race.

Chase a lap

On the Coach screen, choose a lap to chase: your own best, a friend's, or one from a lap challenge. The live delta and voice calls then race you against that lap, for example “0.3 up on Jamie.”

10. Lap challenges

Set a challenge

  1. Open one of your sessions and tap Share best lap as a challenge.
  2. Check your name and tyres, and choose when the challenge ends.
  3. Tap Share challenge, pick Discord, then your challenges channel. The card image and the lap file are posted together.

Take on a challenge

  1. In Discord, tap the lap file under the card. Tapping the picture only shows the image. STRAT1 opens the challenge.
  2. Check the track, car and tyres, then tap Chase and set your time.
  3. Share your best lap back to the channel the same way. Your new card carries the updated standings.

Open each new lap file that's posted and STRAT1 keeps the standings up to date. It shows where you stand, how far you are behind the driver ahead, and lets you chase anyone in the table.

Checked laps: each lap is rebuilt from its own telemetry when it's opened, so a lap file with an edited time shows as unchecked.

11. Troubleshooting

STRAT1 can't connect to the PS5

The coach goes quiet when the screen is off

Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery. In Android's battery settings for STRAT1, set battery use to Unrestricted.

The track wasn't recognised

Give it a full lap, as some layouts share sections. If it still isn't recognised, pick the track from the list before you start.

Still stuck?

Turn on Record raw telemetry, reproduce the problem, and send the recording with a short description of what happened. It can be replayed exactly as it happened, which makes fixing things much quicker.
